한국서부발전은 2001년 4월 2일 한국전력공사에서 분사, 설립된 발전 전문 공기업으로서 매년 괄목할만한 성장을 거듭해 가고 있습니다.
한국서부발전은 태안발전본부를 비롯하여 평택, 서인천, 군산 등 4개 발전단지에 국내 총 발전설비 용량의 10.3%에 해당되는 890만kw의 설비를 보유하고 있습니다.

국내 전력수급 안정을 위해 현재 태안 9.10호기와 태안 IGCC, 평택 2복합, 동두천 복합 발전소 등 총 530만 kw의 대규모 설비를 건설 중에 있습니다. 또한, 미래성장 동력 확충을 위해 해외 신규사업 개발에도 꾸준히 노력하고 있습니다. 라오스, 미얀마, 인도 등 세계 각지에서 발전소 건설과 운영사업에 참여하여 그 역량을 드높이고 있습니다.

KOWEPO is a professional public corporation for power generation, established on April 2, 2001 separated from Korea Electric Power Corporation, and is continuing remarkable development every year.
KOWEPO now owns Taean Thermal Power complex division and other Thermal power complexes in Pyeongtaek, Seoincheon and Gunsan, with facilities that can generate 8.9 million kW accounting for 10.3% of the entire power generation in Korea. Over 2,000 managements and employees at KOWEPO are trying their best to provide high-quality electricity stably and economically, thereby contributing to the economic development of Korea and improved lives of people.
KOWEPO is now building large scale facilities with amount of 5.3 million kW including 9 and 10th facilities in Taean, Taean IGCC, Pyeongtaek 2 combined cycle, Dongducheon combined cycle for stabilizing domestic supply of electricity. The company is also making continuous efforts to develop new overseas projects for assuring extended dynamics for future growth. Along with these projects, the company has extended its presence to the power plant management business in Laos, Myanmar and Indonesia, and to Photovoltaic Power Project in Nevada, the U.S., growing its influence in many countries in the world.
KOWEPO pursues harmony among human and environment. The company is continuously promoting new renewable energy business as Clean Development Mechanism(CDM), and actively participating in Renewable Portfolio Standard(RPS) of the government for realizing green energy corporation.
